Social impact is a reality of daily business/organization operations. The SiMPACT Strategy Group works with a wide variety of organizations seeking to understand their impact on society because they care about their brands, experience of their products & services and the legacy of their daily operations.

From a corporate perspective, some organizations seek to maximize the social value they create through their management policies, operating procedures, or the functionality of products and services. Others seek information to more effectively manage risk and better meet stakeholder expectations. All are striving to inform decision-making and to grow into new markets.

An informed approach can result in actions that enhance license to operate and strengthen license to grow. This creates a direct link to PR and communications strategies that are fact-based and designed to respond to, or advance, important customer, employee, shareholder and regulatory issues.

In Canada, discussion and involvement in social investment is growing. Investors may have many profiles, but they commonly seek to maximize the social value created through investments – in combination with the maximum possible financial return and environmental sustainability. In some instances, the social impact of an activity (or investment into a community agency) may create such significant social value, that an ongoing investment subsidy into that same activity makes imminent, practical sense.

The Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology can assist investors of all profiles to assess the social impact and the value created from their investment. It is also a useful tool to assist community agencies to present the value of their work as a worthwhile and compelling investment.
